A Norwalk well has been shut down because of contamination by industrial solvent. The contaminant, dichloroethane or DCE, is used for paint, gasoline and other industrial applications. The source of the DCE is unknown, according to Frank Costas, sanitary engineer for the Southern California Water Co., which operates the well.
