Lina Cavalieri Wins the Monrovia Handicap
Favored Lina Cavalieri closed strongly to win the $66,650 Monrovia Handicap for older fillies and mares Wednesday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, Lina Cavalieri finished two lengths in front of Air Disingue, ridden by Fernando Toro. Tangent, ridden by Darrel McHargue, was a head farther back.
Covering the distance of about 6 1/2 furlongs down the hillside turf course in 1:14, Lina Cavalieri earned $39,650.
Sent off the 2-1 favorite, Lina Cavalieri paid $6.60, $3.80 and $2.80. Air Distingue returned $4.80 and $3. Tangent paid $3 to show.
