Birds, Fish, Puppies Killed in Pet Shop Fire
More than 60 birds, hundreds of tropical fish, and several puppies, snakes and hamsters died in a fire that broke out in a Arcadia pet shop, authorities said Friday.
Faulty electrical wiring on a fluorescent light hanging above 10 fish tanks in the Pet and Jungle Shop on Las Tunas Drive was blamed for the Thursday morning blaze that caused an estimated $20,000 loss, Fire Investigator Jim Bateson said Friday.
One parrot, kept in the animal hospital at the back of the building, a turtle and some fish survived the blaze, he said.
