Larry Farmer, who resigned as UCLA basketball coach at the end of last season, turning down the three-year contract he had accepted a few days earlier, now says that he is ready to get back into coaching.

Farmer is being mentioned among the candidates for coaching jobs at several schools, among them the University of Washington and the University of Hawaii.

Farmer acknowledged Friday that both Washington and Hawaii were among the schools that had shown interest in him, and he said that there were a few others. “It’s still a little early to know what jobs are going to open up,” he said.

Marv Harshman will retire at Washington at the end of the season, and Larry Little, Hawaii’s coach for the last nine seasons, has resigned, effective at the end of the season.

Farmer, who lives in Los Angeles, has been doing color commentary on the Denver Nuggets’ games for KWGN-TV in Denver. He seemed disillusioned with the coaching profession when he left UCLA abruptly last March, and did not immediately seek other coaching jobs after his resignation.

Asked if he had recovered from coaching burnout, he said, “I was never really burned out on coaching. I was burned out on coaching at UCLA. I had been there for so long. I needed a change.”
