Three hikers who set out in the Angeles National Forest on Sunday morning were found safe today after spending the night in temperatures that dropped below 40 degrees, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

Pat McGowan and Sue Seling, both 26, and 12-year-old Chris Rhodes, all of North Hollywood, were brought out of a canyon two miles north of the junction of Angeles Forest Highway and Big Tujunga Canyon Road and were sent home, Deputy Lynda Edmonds said. The trio began the trek at Hidden Springs, planning to hike to a scenic waterfall and return by nightfall, she said.
