Hana Mandlikova, who stopped Martina Navratilova’s 54-match winning streak to win the Virginia Slims of California last year, ended four years of frustration against Chris Evert Lloyd with a 6-2, 6-4 victory Sunday in the final of the $150,000 tournament at Oakland.

Mandlikova, seeded sixth, powered past Lloyd with surprising ease after losing their previous 11 matches. The Czech’s only two victories in 18 prior matches against Lloyd were on clay in the semifinals of the 1981 French Open and in Atlanta in 1980 on an indoor surface similar to the one for this tournament.

“I couldn’t get the level of my game up a notch as I usually should,” Lloyd said.

After holding serve for 3-2 in the opening set, Mandlikova won the next four games. The two exchanged breaks for the next four games in the second set and were tied, 3-3, after Lloyd finally held. At 5-4, Mandlikova broke again to win the match.

Third-seeded Kevin Curren of South Africa upset top-seeded Anders Jarryd of Sweden, 7-6, 6-3, to win a $125,000 tournament at Toronto.

The match featured one service break, by Curren in the fourth game of the second set. Curren won the first-set tiebreaker, 8-6.
