A 14-year-old girl was raped Tuesday morning by an armed man who grabbed her at gunpoint as she walked to Sun Valley Junior High School, Los Angeles police said Wednesday.

A man described as being in his 20s shoved a weapon in the girl’s back at about 7:30 a.m., shortly after her mother dropped her off at Sherman Way and Lankershim Boulevard, said Lt. Ron LaRue.

Telling her not to scream, the assailant forced her to walk to an area behind several commercial buildings at Sherman Way and Troost Avenue, where the assault occurred, police said. The girl reported the rape after arriving at school. She was taken by police to North Hollywood Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
