A 13-year-old boy was recovering at Loma Linda University Medical Center after 14 hours of surgery to reattach his hand, severed by an electric saw in a junior high school wood shop class. Anthony Bolden accidentally cut off his hand Tuesday and was rushed to the hospital in San Bernardino County, where doctors painstakingly reconnected nerves, blood vessels and tissue. Doctors said it would take five days before they will know if the reattachment is successful. If it is, the boy will have to undergo a dozen more operations over the next two years to strengthen the hand so it can become useful. Orthopedic surgeon Robert Unsell said Bolden has a good chance for full recovery.
