HOW QUICKLY THEY FORGET--Warner Bros. recently announced that Al Pacino will star in “Revolution 1776,” the latest film by director Hugh Hudson. With the hyperbole of most motion-picture-studio press releases, the announcement said, “This epic period of American history has not been featured on film since D. W. Griffith’s classic 1924 production of ‘America.’ ”

Warner Bros. is wrong on at least one count. The press release failed to mention that in 1972, Jack L. Warner--the same Jack L. Warner who once headed Warner Bros.--produced “1776,” a musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

In all fairness to current Warner publicists, the movie was released by Columbia Pictures and was, indeed, quickly forgotten.
