Toxicological and other tests will be made to determine the exact cause of death of 22-year-old Wendy Jean Davis of Whittier, who died shortly after being dragged unconscious from a hot spa in an El Monte motel, a coroner’s spokesman said. El Monte police said her 30-year-old boyfriend was found unconscious beside the hot spa, which had its thermostat set at 140 degrees. El Monte investigator E.R. Reyburn said there was no indication that foul play was involved. Both apparently had been drinking, Reyburn said. He said the pair, accompanied by another couple, had checked into the Victory Motel about three hours earlier. Davis was breathing and moaning when she was pulled from the spa, Reyburn said, but died a few minutes later at El Monte Community Hospital. Her companion regained consciousness and did not require treatment.
