2nd Student at Claremont Wins Marshall Award
A second student at the Claremont Colleges has received the coveted George C. Marshall Scholarship, one of 30 such awards given nationwide.
Edward G. Kamman, 21, a senior at Pomona College in Claremont, will study for up to three years at Oxford University in England on a stipend of approximately $12,000.
An international relations major, Kamman has spent the past two summers as an interpreter in Moscow and has traveled widely. He said he will continue his studies of the Soviet Union and hopes one day to work toward correcting what he believes are American misconceptions about that country.
Michele Walsh, a 20-year-old senior at Claremont McKenna College, received a Marshall Scholarship earlier last month.
The scholarship, which bears the name of the late five-star general and U.S. secretary of state who conceived the Marshall Plan for the recovery of a Europe devastated by World War II, is administered by Great Britain and the winners are selected there.
