Youths Go by the Book, Light Way for Rescuers

BELL CANYON, Utah —
Two young rock climbers trapped on a high ledge could not start a fire using the method explained in a wilderness survival book--so they burned the book.
Searchers saw the flames, and a helicopter arrived about midnight Sunday to rescue Ryan Angus and Jim Deering, both 14. They were stranded in Bell Canyon, southeast of Salt Lake City. Members of the sheriff’s rescue team had been looking for them about four hours.
