Whitaker Improves Professional Record to 3-0
Lightweight Pernell Whitaker, in his first hometown appearance since winning the gold medal in the Los Angeles Olympics, stopped Michael Golden of Philadelphia in the fourth round Wednesday night.
Whitaker, 3-0 as a professional, floored Golden (7-5) with a left to the body.
Two other Olympians on the card, lightweight Meldrick Taylor of Philadelphia and light-heavyweight Evander Holyfield of Atlanta, also won. Taylor stopped Darren Curtis of Chicago, at 2:09 of the third round, while Holyfield finished off veteran Fred Brown of Norfolk at 1:56 of the first round.
