San Diego Roundup : Six Athletes Named Stars in the Hall of Champions

Six athletes have been selected as stars of the month of February by the San Diego Hall of Champions.

The group includes figure skater Tiffany Chin, high school wrestlers Bo Steinbach and Mark Gerardi, Branko Segota of the Sockers and Leonard Allen and Anthony Watson of the San Diego State basketball team.

Certificates of achievement have been given to Anthony Reuss of the University of San Diego basketball team, motocross rider Broc Glover and wheelchair athlete Marty Ball.

The fifth St. Patrick’s Day 10K and two-mile fun runs will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Mission Bay Park.

Dave Taylor of Ireland is the featured runner.

The second Welcome Padres Luncheon will be held at noon on April 8 at the Town and Country Convention Center.

Tickets cost $15 and may be purchased at the Holiday Bowl office at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium or the Kiwanis office, 1895 Camino del Rio South.

The event is sponsored by the Baseball Writers Assn. of America, Greater San Diego Sports Assn. and Kiwanis Club of San Diego. All Padre players, Manager Dick Williams and the coaching staff will attend.

Wendy Turnbull has been seeded first for the Virginia Slims of San Diego tennis tournament, which will be held from April 20 to 28 at the San Diego Beach and Tennis Resort.

Proceeds will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

A tennis tournament to benefit the Scripps Cancer HomeCare Program will take place on April 27 and 28 at the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club.

NBC sportscaster Dick Enberg will serve as the honorary chairman.

Michael Cooper of the Lakers will host a basketball camp for boys and girls in third through 11th grades on July 22 to 26 at Grossmont High School.

Norm Nixon of the Clippers will be a featured speaker at the camp. The cost is $130.
