The field at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium, in need of a facelift because of an infestation of parasites, will be resodded in time for the start of baseball season, city officials say.

On Monday, City Council allocated $30,000 for the resurfacing after stadium manager Bill Wilson said parasites were wrecking the condition of the grass playing field.

He said the turf was infested with four types of nematodes, a type of parasite, and added the field would have to fumigated before the new sod could be put in place.
