A psychiatrist has been sentenced to five years in prison for stealing more than $400,000 from the Medi-Cal program to finance his wife’s cocaine habit. Dr. Theodore Jay Sabot, 46, pleaded guilty to grand theft and was sentenced by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Ronald Tochterman. “At the time it seemed like the best way to protect my family,” Sabot said. “The kids needed a mother. I was fearful about the loss of my wife. There was tremendous stress.” Sabot was accused of submitting more than 3,000 false claims to Medi-Cal over a three-year period.
