The University of San Diego announced Monday that it will launch Southern California’s first undergraduate Marine Studies department in the fall. The program will be jointly taught by USD and the Hubbs-Sea World Research Institute, which has been involved in oceanography in San Diego for 22 years. Joseph Pusateri, dean of the College of Letters and Sciences at USD, said the program will include topics in both the sciences and social sciences, including law of the sea, oceanographic sampling and environmental ethics. The chairman of the department will be named in late April, Pusateri said.
