Car Theft Suspect Dies in Jail
A 20-year-old South-Central Los Angeles man arrested in a stolen car died in a padded cell of the Southeast Division jail early today after attacking a cell mate and being restrained by jailers, police said.
Edwin J. Rugley died shortly after 1 a.m. despite efforts of paramedics to revive him. Lt. Charles Higbie said Rugley was believed to have been under the influence of drugs. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.
