Community organizations in East and South-Central Los Angeles compiled secret lists identifying 40 locations where drug transactions occur, and presented them to law enforcement authorities. Spokesmen for the United Neighborhood Organization and the South-Central Organizing Committee presented the lists in sealed envelopes to the sheriff, district attorney and other law enforcement officials during a meeting of community leaders at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner addressed the gathering briefly, saying that the effort to clean up crime at the targeted areas was “a long-distance run, not a sprint.” An overall plan for enforcement was to be worked out and presented to the group at another meeting, scheduled for March 28.
