Burbank’s Needy to Get Cheese

Thousands of pounds of cheese and butter will be distributed to needy residents of Burbank on Wednesday, according to Los Angeles County officials.

The cheese and butter, supplied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will be available to Burbank residents who provide proof of residence, income identification and food stamp cards at the Burbank Community Church, 1900 W. Burbank Blvd. Burbank officials said that if no income verification is available, a “self-declaration as being low income” is sufficient.

Eligible senior citizens may pick up their cheese and butter at the Salvation Army, 300 E. Angeleno Ave., and at the American Lutheran Church, 755 N. Whitnall Highway. Distribution will be between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., or until the cheese and butter are gone, officials said.

Each household will receive five pounds of butter and five pounds of cheese if it meets the following maximum income requirements: one person, $7,470; two people, $10,080; four persons, $15,300. Officials said residents should bring their own bag to carry the food. Senior citizens needing transportation may call the Burbank Transportation Service, 953-9568.

Cheese and butter will also be distributed on Wednesday to needy residents of Glendale.
