The Denver-based firm said it has signed a letter of intent to sell the plants to Tate & Lyle PLC of London for an undisclosed price. Bob White, a lawyer for Great Western, said signing of the final agreement is subject to approval by the company’s creditors. Four plants in Nebraska--at Gering, Mitchell, Scottsbluff and Bayard--one at Lovell, Wyo., and one in Billings, Mont., are involved in the deal, White said. Great Western Sugar filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code on March 7. Great Western is a unit of Hunt International Resources of Dallas.
