The City Council has approved an agreement for the acquisition of cable communication facilities owned by Acton CATV Inc. The agreement provides that Duarte will purchase all existing facilities of Acton that are within the city limits for $235,000.

The city has hired Duarte Cable Communications to operate the system, maintain equipment and handle billing. The operator will pay the city 7% of its gross income and all the debt service on a $2.4-million bond issue floated by the city to pay Acton and for the anticipated cost of new television equipment to raise the system’s quality.

The change will take effect April 15. A city official said that Duarte had problems with Acton for years and decided to acquire ownership of the system because it is easier to terminate an operator than a franchisee.
