Tennis Roundup : McEnroe Gets All the Breaks
In a battle of big serves, John McEnroe defeated West Germany’s Boris Becker, 6-4, 6-3, Wednesday night in the $380,000 Fila Trophy indoor tournament at Milan.
McEnroe failed to win a point in Becker’s first three service games but scored decisive breaks in the 10th game of first set and the eighth game of the second set. He served nine aces, while the 17-year-old Becker, nicknamed “Boom Boom” because of his powerful serve, aced McEnroe five times.
At Fort Myers, Fla., Ivan Lendl beat John Lloyd, 6-3, 6-3, and Sammy Giammalva upset Aaron Krickstein, 7-5, 6-4, to highlight action at the Paine Webber tournament.
