A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a retired Los Angeles police motorcycle officer as the former officer was directing traffic during filming on a movie location, police said. Robert Skiminski, 48, who retired 12 years ago, was in a police uniform and directing traffic on Washington Boulevard at Park Grove Avenue, just south of downtown Los Angeles, when he was hit by a red, 1979 Honda Prelude, police said. A motorist followed the fleeing car and gave investigators a license plate number, but no arrests have been made, police said. Investigators said the car had not been registered for two years.
