Carter Hawley Hale Stores Inc. said John M. Gailys will assume the post of chief financial officer in addition to his current duties as executive vice president-finance and operations.

Gailys, 43, will succeed Howard N. West, who is retiring today. West, 65, joined Los Angeles-based Carter Hawley, parent of the Broadway, Neiman-Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman stores, in 1952.

In other appointments, Carter Hawley announced that the following were named vice presidents: Harry Levitt, finance; Dale G. Thune, property and sales tax; D. Clair Brumbaugh, income tax; Brian L. Fleming, accounting; Larry Petersen, planning and analysis; Francis T. Phalen, shortage controller, and Walter W. Tuthill, general auditor.

John F. Busey, currently director of treasury operations, was named treasurer.

The changes are effective today.

Rod W. Underhill, an executive vice president and director of Dallas-based Tracy-Locke Inc., was named chief operating officer of the advertising agency’s first Los Angeles office, which will open Aug. 1.

Indal Aluminum, based in the City of Industry, named the following vice presidents: W.B. Blauw, manufacturing; J.C. Courduff, sales; R.E. Dunbar, general manager-Indal Aluminum Products, and G.A. Fairley, systems and data processing.

Julius R. Davis has been named senior vice president and manager of lender services for Ticor Investment Securities Co., a subsidiary of Ticor Mortgage Insurance Co., Los Angeles. Also, Gary Lanis has been named vice president and manager-systems design and programming for Ticor Mortgage, and Gloria Ceccarelli was appointed vice president-field operations.

Kenneth H. Klopp has been named senior vice president and general manager of Barclay Hollander Corp., Inglewood.

Stephen Morley-Mower has been promoted to vice president-sales services for Los Angeles-based Embassy Telecommunications.

The marketing department of Max Factor & Co., Hollywood, named Sharon LeVan vice president-cosmetics and Cheryl L. Scott Daniels vice president-fragrances.

Trust Co. of the West, Los Angeles, promoted Merlin E. Robertson to senior vice president-client relations.

Alhambra-based Granada Bank named Thomas E. Vessey senior vice president and senior credit officer.

Stanford W. Blum has been appointed vice president-marketing and merchandising for the Cannon Group Inc., Los Angeles.

Following the recent merger of Producers Sales Organization and Delphi Cos., the succeeding company, Century City-based PSO Delphi, named Gregory Cascante vice president and Richard Mason vice president and chief financial officer. They previously were executive vice presidents and chief operating officers of PSO and Delphi, respectively.

Christopher R. Thomas, treasurer of Collins Foods International Inc., Los Angeles, has been elevated to vice president.

David M. Schulte, managing partner of Chilmark Partners, Chicago, a merchant banking firm, has been elected a director of Wickes Cos., Santa Monica. The board also named Sanford Kaplan, a private investor and business consultant.
