Koko the gorilla, who communicates in sign language and who grieved when her pet kitten was killed in a traffic accident, has been given a new kitten at the Gorilla Foundation in Woodside near San Francisco. The center’s male “talking” gorilla, Michael, thinks the new kitten is his, however. “They both play with the kitten and so far there have been no disputes,” Colleen Corey, administrative and research assistant, said. Koko, who can express more than 500 words in sign language, named the first kitten “All-Ball.”
