About 500 inmates of the Dade County jail, being held for various offenses “from murder on down,” skipped breakfast and lunch today to aid the starving people of Ethiopia.

About half the jail’s population agreed to participate in the fast and planned also to skip dinner. Jail officials said that at food costs of $2 per inmate per day, $1,000 would be saved and sent to World Vision, an international relief agency that will relay the money to Ethiopia.
