Local News in Brief : Father Held in Death of Infant
A22-year-old Northridge man was arrested on suspicion of murder Friday in connection with the death of his 5-month-old daughter, Los Angeles police said.
The infant, Jacqueline Monico, was having difficulty breathing when her father, mother and grandmother took her to Northridge Hospital Medical Center at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, police Lt. Vance Proctor said.
She died shortly after 5:30 a.m., Proctor said.
Police suspicions were aroused by unexplained marks on the infant’s body. Her father, Mario Monico Garcia, was arrested after extensive questioning by Los Angeles police, Proctor said. The father was being held without bail in the Van Nuys jail, the lieutenant said.
The exact cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy, police said.
Police and hospital officials would not provide further details.
