THORN EMI Computer Software Inc. in Irvine and CBS Educational and Professional Publishing have released a textbook and software package aimed at college students learning how to use microcomputers. The package includes a textbook “Computers and Application Software, an Introduction” by Wilson T. Price and instructional versions of three THORN EMI software programs.

The $7-million renovation of East Anaheim Center has been completed, a project that gave the shopping center 300 new parking spaces, additional landscaping and new awnings. Architects on the project were McClellan Cruz Gaylord & Associates of Newport Beach. New tenants in the 334,000 square-foot center include a Ralph’s supermarket, Kentucky Fried Chicken and H. Salt Fish and Chips.

Californians went on a spending spree in 1984 and taxable sales registered their strongest growth in five years, according to the state Board of Equalization.

Sales for the year totaled $194 billion, up $24.6 billion from the year earlier. The 14.5% annual increase was nearly three times greater than the state’s 5% average inflation rate during 1984.

Regionally, the growth was strongest in Southern California which enjoyed an 11.4% increase. Orange County taxable sales were $5 billion, up 11.7% from 1983.

American Republic Investments Inc., a Costa Mesa-based real estate investment syndicator, and its Century City trading partner, Tatco Invesments Inc., have hired Johnstown American Cos. of Atlanta, to manage their 220 apartment and office buildings in the Sunbelt states. In addition, American Republic President Ron Ruis said Johnstown will be asked to manage any new properties that the investor partnerships acquire, “as well as to provide analysis, inspection and appraisal services to our partnerships” before they acquire the real estate. Calsonic Inc. of Irvine, a supplier of automotive products, has established a $25-million automotive engineering facility on a 3,050-acre site near Phoenix, Ariz. The company, a subsidiary of Nihon Radiator Co. Ltd. of Tokyo, supplies domestic auto manufacturers with air conditioners, heaters, radiators and exhaust systems.
