Two Southern Californians are among five state teachers who still have a chance to be aboard a space shuttle flight next year, the state Department of Education announced. State schools chief Bill Honig will interview the five and select two state finalists to submit to NASA, which will pick the winner from among the two choices of each of the 50 states. One of the semifinalists is E. Jay Schaeffer, an English teacher at Belmont High School in Los Angeles. Another is Gloria McMillan, English, humanities and independent studies teacher at La Jolla High School. The other three Californians are from San Bruno, Redding and Big Sur.
