Pacific Palisades Resident to Head Research Group

Margye S. Baumgardner of Pacific Palisades has been named executive director of the John Douglas French Foundation, a private, nonprofit research organization dedicated to determining the causes, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.

Baumgardner most recently served as director of development for the American Lung Assn. and its Emphysema Foundation. She also held management and fund-raising positions with Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Cancer Society.

A member of the National Society of Fundraising Executives, Baumgardner earned the society’s President’s Award in 1984. She is the organization’s president-elect and will be the first woman to hold that office.

The organization was founded by Dorothy Kirsten French in 1983 to carry out the work of her husband, Dr. John Douglas French, the co-founder and former director of the UCLA Brain Research Institute and an Alzheimer’s sufferer.
