La Palma : City Committee to Hear Hotel Chain’s Proposal

Share

A hotel chain negotiating with La Palma officials to provide the city’s first hotel will present its proposal to the City Council’s development committee later this month, the city manager said Friday.

The hotel would be included in an $80-million redevelopment project off the Artesia Freeway at Valley View Street and Orangethorpe Avenue, City Manager Richard Rowe said. The redevelopment project was approved by the council in October, 1984.

The hotel would generate about $250,000 in revenue for the city during its first year, Rowe said. By the end of the second construction phase, the 40-acre complex would include a four-story office tower, an office building and either restaurants or banks.

Rowe declined to say what company is negotiating with the city to build the hotel, which would be at least six stories high and have 150 rooms. But he said the chain is one of the 10 largest in the country, with 300 hotels around the nation.

Hotel representatives will present their proposal to the development committee April 22. If approved, the proposal will be heard by the City Council May 7, he said.
