Unit 2 at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station has been returned to service after completion of refueling and maintenance work, Southern California Edison Co. officials reported. A company spokesman said all three units are operating at the San Onofre station, providing a combined electric generation capacity of 2.6 million kilowatts of electricity. San Onofre Unit 2 was taken out of service last fall for a major maintenance outage involving refueling the reactor, design changes and modifications to satisfy new regulations and to overhaul the turbine and generator, according to Edison officials.
