A Dream Castle Bares Its Beauty
A Tudor mansion at 160 S. San Rafael Ave. in Pasadena, designed in 1929 by architect Paul R. Williams for an Englishman who dreamed of owning a castle, is the site of the 1985 Pasadena Showcase House of Design. The mansion is open to the public through May 19 Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $10; for details, call (818) 584-0123.
The living room, at right and above, was de- signed by Libby Ferraro, ASID associate. Upholstery and pillows are from Beverly Interiors; antiques are from Bruce Graney, Pasadena; carpet is by Stark; the grand piano is from Gould Music. Fabrics are from Scalamandre, Clarence House, Brunschwig et Fils and Westgate; draperies are by Exclusive Drapery. Chandelier, lamps and glass-top tables are from Chapman by de Benedictis. Flowers are by Jacob Maarse, Pasadena.
The country breakfast room, above right, was designed by Linda Merrifield Howard ASID and Sylvia Scherrer ASID of the Designing Women, La Canada. Walls and windows are covered with Charles Barone wallpaper and fabrics, and the tablecloth, chair cushions and window seat are made from matching fabric. The custom floor tiles are by Larry Leichman of Designer Tile, Santa Monica; hardwood flooring is by Creative Floor Coverings, Glendale. The chandelier is by Richard Ray Designs. Tableware is from Port O’Call, Pasadena. Floral centerpiece is by Eiji’s, La Canada; floral baskets are by Brad Larsen.
The “girl’s suite,” far right, was designed by Sandra Ray and Maxine Havens, ASID associates, of The Alternative, Pasadena. The floral wall covering is by Charles Barone, and the four-poster bed, chaise and window seat feature matching fabric as well as fabrics from F. Schumacher and Kasmir. Carpeting is from Collins & Aikman; draperies are by Vivian’s Draperies and Track Too. Antiques are from Bruce Graney, Hodgson’s and West World. Flowers are from Silver Birches, Pasadena.
