Imperiled Lagoon
Congratulations on your fine series of articles on the potential problems facing lagoons.
We have a wonderful example in the Tijuana River Estuarine Sanctuary in Imperial Beach. In spite of the federal government’s coming up with its share of the money for an Interpretive Center and the state Park and Recreation Commission’s unanimous high-priority ranking for the project, we seem to be stymied and the project downgraded.
Without this center, this most pristine, largest saltwater marsh in Southern California will not be allowed to reach its potential as an important research and education facility. It appeared to meet all the criteria for funding under the park bond monies voted for so overwhelmingly last year.
