Solana Beach incorporation proponents announced Monday that they have gathered enough petition signatures to qualify their cityhood drive for a hearing before the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO).

Gail Paparian, a leader of Citizens Intending to Incorporate, said 2,554 signatures have been counted and a final tally is expected to bring the number to 2,800. She said that 2,080 petition signatures were needed to qualify the incorporation drive for a LAFCO hearing.

Paparian said CITI will present the petitions and a check for $1,500 for filing fees to LAFCO at 9 a.m. next Tuesday. If the cityhood proposal is approved by the commission members and other state and local bodies, voters in the Solana Beach area will decide the issue on the June, 1986, ballot.
