City Honors Baseball Figure:Red Patterson, who quit two positions earlier this month during the continuing battle between the California Angels and the City of Anaheim, was honored by the city Tuesday for his contributions “to the Angels, the Chamber (of Commerce) and the city.” City Council members passed a resolution of appreciation because “Mr. Patterson has done an excellent job,” said Councilman Irv Pickler. “We feel he’s a great guy.” Patterson, 76, resigned as assistant to Angels’ owner Gene Autry, saying he had lost power within the Angels organization. He also resigned from the Chamber of Commerce after he was barred during a chamber luncheon from making a plea for a peaceful settlement to litigation between the city and the Angels. During that luncheon, Anaheim Mayor Don Roth was snubbed by the ball club when he was not allowed to sit at the head table, as Anaheim mayors have done in the past. “It’s all good will,” Pickler said of Tuesday’s proclamation. “He’s done a lot in the 40 years he’s been in baseball.”
