Fires Probed at Santa Ana Abortion Clinic
Santa Ana fire officials are investigating two fires of suspicious origin that occurred at the Feminist Women’s Health Center this week, a Fire Department spokesman said Thursday.
Early Thursday morning, a fire scorched the concrete wall at the back of the abortion clinic. The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters and there was no damage. It was the second fire at the clinic this week. Late Monday, a similar blaze burned ivy alongside the building.
The clinic, at 406 S. Main St., has been a frequent target of anti-abortion pickets since it was opened in 1973.
At a press conference Thursday in front of the clinic, Laura Brown, executive director of the clinic, blamed both fires on anti-abortionists. Brown said the clinic has been “under siege” by anti-abortionists who have harassed employees and clients of the clinic..
