Firm to Release More of Diphtheria Vaccine

ATLANTA —
Supplies of a vaccine that prevents diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus infections have improved substantially, federal health officials said Friday.
The national Centers for Disease Control said Connaught Laboratories has decided to resume production of the vaccine and release 2.2 million doses immediately.
The CDC warned last December that the vaccine might become scarce because drug firms, faced with possible liability claims over injuries suffered by recipients, were halting production.
