The NBA Playoffs Need to Be Revised Downward

Share

The NBA playoffs opened in Philadelphia, and the game was played before the smallest 76er crowd of the season--an indication of the absurdity of the NBA playoff system. With 16 teams invited, the tournament reeks of mediocrity. For example, four of the 16 playoff teams lost more games than they won during the regular season.

In truth, four teams own the NBA this year--Inglewood, Boston, Philadelphia and Milwaukee each played better than .700 ball. The NBA should take a hint from baseball, invite the best four into a swift, action-filled playoffs (two best-of-sevens) and leave hokey “playoffs” to hockey and roller derby.
