Airport Security

Share

We recently returned from a fabulous four-week cruise (Hong Kong to Haifa) on the beautiful Rotterdam. The trip could not have been more wonderful, though one event nearly ruined it for us. We were harassed, insulted and generally treated like criminals when leaving Israel from the Tel Aviv airport.

We understand the need for extra security in Tel Aviv and agree that if it prevents terrorists from boarding the plane, it is necessary and proper security. But we were not pleased that we were targeted for a special search--everything taken out of suitcases and carry-ons, all carefully packed souvenirs unwrapped and put through X-rays, and suitcases repacked by an uncaring security inspector. The sarcasm and insults we were subjected to had nothing to do with security.

As a result of this experience, we will never again step foot in Israel, and feel it necessary to warn travelers who are thinking about going there that they, too, may receive the same treatment.
