A new labor contract covering 700 Southern California Rapid Transit District ticket clerks, telephone operators and other clerical employees was approved by RTD directors. In ratifying the 39-month pact with the Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks (BRAC), the RTD moved closer toward agreements with all three of its labor unions that would avert a transit strike. Last week, the RTD board approved a pact with its 5,000 bus drivers, and negotiations with the union representing 1,800 RTD mechanics and maintenance workers are scheduled to resume on May 13. Under terms of the BRAC contract, clerical workers will receive a 4.5% annual increase in wages and fringe benefits.
