Start Slated on Travel Center Near Gorman

Construction is expected to start this week on The Ridge, a $65-million mixed-use development designed for truckers and travelers on 1,158 acres two miles north of Gorman on the southwest quadrant of Interstate 5 and Frazier Park Road.

A $13-million, 15-acre travel center is being built in the first phase. Scheduled for completion in March, 1986, the 100,000-square-foot complex will have an 80-room motor lodge with swimming pool, spa and children’s play area; an 11,000-square-foot dining area with coffee shop and restaurant; a convenience market, gift shop, five-bay auto service fuel facility; nine-bay truck fuel service area; 20 truckers’ rooms; laundry facilities, and 14 shower/dressing rooms.

John M. Hall Construction Co. of Los Angeles is building the center with construction financing provided by Transtate Mortgage Group of San Diego. Permanent financing was obtained from the Development Foundation of Southern California.
