Chevron Waste in the Pacific

The arrest of members of Greenpeace was just one more example of our strange system of values that is practiced in the United States today. The protesters were charged with felonies when they attempted to block up pipes that belonged to Chevron, which allegedly emit toxic substances into the ocean. It seems strange to me that these companies with their apparent negligent behavior can get away with endangering wildlife and human life, and continue business as always, without any or with little repercussions.

While the action of the Greenpeace activists may be technically illegal, there are many worse crimes going on in this country and city today that go basically or completely unpunished. Meanwhile, people who have a right to protest under the Constitution are trying to do something to protect what is left of our natural environment. Is this a crime?

Chemical companies and consumers have to realize that even the ocean cannot continually be polluted without showing the effects of such pollution.
