Gov. Edwards, 7 Others Appear in Fraud Case

NEW ORLEANS —
Gov. Edwin W. Edwards of Louisiana and seven co-defendants were arraigned Wednesday on federal charges involving state permits for hospital construction.
None of the defendants made any comment in the 20-minute appearance before U.S. Magistrate Ivan Lemelle. They were released on their own recognizance.
