A Canyon Country man, who investigators believe shot and killed his girlfriend, shot and killed himself Friday morning as officials went to his home searching for the missing woman, Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators said.

Brian Andrew Moliter, 46, was found dead in a bed at his home at 27902 Sand Canyon Road shortly after 9:15 a.m. The decomposing body of a woman believed to be Moliter’s 29-year-old girlfriend was found on the floor at the foot of the bed, Lt. Gary Vance said.

Investigators said they believe the woman had been dead since Tuesday. Her name was being withheld until investigators could confirm her identity.

“We know he killed himself, and we’re making an assumption he killed her,” Vance said. Deputies went to the home after the woman’s sister filed a missing-person report at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Vance said.

Deputies accompanied the sister to Moliter’s house. Finding the door unlocked, they opened it, identified themselves and called Moliter’s name. After hearing a single gunshot, they called for tactical officers, who entered the home a short time later, Vance said.

Officers found many empty alcoholic beverage containers near the bodies, he said.
