Children See Sexes Sharing Family Care
America’s youngsters, when they grow up, want the sexes to share responsibility for child rearing and believe that the nation will elect a woman President, a survey showed Saturday.
Of 400,000 students in grades four through six surveyed nationwide by My Weekly Reader, 57% supported equality between the sexes and 46% said they believe that a woman will have been elected President by the time they are adults.
The newspaper, which has a circulation of more than 7 million, found that 87% of the girls surveyed and 81% of the boys believe that they will marry. When asked who will care for their children, 38% said the mother, 5% said the father and 57% said both parents.
