The young man, a suspected gang member, was being questioned by Deputy Christina Polak concerning some Friday night shootings when the incident occurred, Deputy Steve Lee said. The youth, who had been arrested with two men, grabbed a pipe in the interrogation room and struck Polak, Lee said. The youth was last seen scaling a block wall surrounding the station.

Polak, a 6-year veteran, was treated for five cuts at St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood and released.
