Doctor Charged With Murder Try
A 55-year-old physician was charged today with attempted murder for allegedly removing the life-support system from a brain-damaged 28-year-old patient at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital last month, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office announced.
Dr. John Frederick Kappler, an anesthesiologist, is scheduled for arraignment Thursday. Prosecutors said quick response by other members of the hospital staff enabled the patient to survive the episode. Kappler was not the man’s doctor, and the motive for turning off the respirator is still under investigation, the district attorney’s office said.
