Patrick Ewing Has a Son, Newspaper Reports
Patrick Ewing, Georgetown’s All-American center and the prospective No. 1 choice in the National Basketball Assn. draft June 18, is the father of a son about to celebrate his first birthday, the New York Post reported Wednesday.
Patrick Ewing Jr., who weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces when he was born May 20, 1984, lives with his mother, Sharon D. Stanford, and grandmother in Massachusetts, according to the basketball star’s father.
“When he (Patrick) comes home (to visit), the baby stays with him,” Carl Ewing Sr. told the Post Tuesday night.
The newspaper said the child was registered for birth certificate No. 72202 on April 19, 1985, and the witness was listed as “L. Rice, MD.”
The birth, which has been a closely kept family secret, was filed with Boston’s Registry Division and stamped officially by the city’s acting Registrar, but the birth record is not public, the Post said.
Stanford, 21, attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, where she studied accounting.
Of her relationship with the 7-foot Ewing, she said: “We’re still friends; he’s a great guy.” She added that Ewing “loves him (his son) to death.”
